This course is designed both for those starting out in the nautical world and for those who already have experience and want to perfect their knowledge. During an intensive day, you’ll learn to interpret paper nautical charts, use electronic equipment such as the chartplotter, handle the compass and plan safe, efficient routes. All with the support of professionals with extensive experience in sail training.
What the course includes
The day is split into two parts. In the morning there’s a theory class, led by Alisios Sailing School. This session covers the key fundamentals of coastal navigation, such as reading charts, calculating courses and distances, positioning and passage planning.
In the afternoon there’s a hands-on class aboard the yacht Vagabunda, a Beneteau Oceanis 55. Over three and a half hours you’ll apply everything you’ve learned in real sailing conditions, experiencing first-hand how routes are plotted and decisions made at sea.
The course will take place on Saturday 26 July. The theory class will run from 10:00 to 14:00 at the school, and the practical session will start at 15:00 and finish at 18:30 aboard the Vagabunda. The meeting point is at Valencia Mar.
