We continue with our nautical training for everyone who wants to step into the exciting world of sailing and learn to handle a yacht with ease. This time, we present our Downwind Sails Course, designed so that both novice and experienced sailors can perfect their technique and fully understand how headsails work.
During the course we’ll work on several fundamental aspects of sailing: the general rigging of the boat, the types of downwind sails (Gennaker, Spinnaker and, of course, the Code Zero), as well as the advanced manoeuvres and trim techniques that mark the difference between a well-handled yacht and a mediocre one.
The focus: “Code Zero” sails
The Code Zero will be the main star of this course. It’s an extremely versatile sail, perfect both for cruising and for racing. Its performance downwind makes it an indispensable tool for those who want to get the most out of the boat in variable wind conditions.
You’ll learn to recognise its characteristics, its correct rigging and the specific manoeuvres for hoisting and trimming it, all with the guidance of an experienced instructor.
A theory-and-practice experience on board
The course combines theory and practical sessions at sea, offering complete, dynamic training. During the day you’ll learn to:

Understand the general rigging of the boat.

Perform advanced hoisting and trimming manoeuvres.

Get familiar with handling downwind sails on different points of sail.

Execute emergency or jury rigs.
Classes will be held aboard a Dufour 405 Grand Large, a fast, stable yacht that’s perfect for teaching and guarantees a safe, comfortable experience at all times.
